A Big Win for the Community: Hoops Rivalry Means Helping Hands

More than 30 local schools and community agencies in need of aid will host teams of willing workers – University of Cincinnati and Xavier University students, fans, friends and alumni – during the Crosstown Helpout on Saturday, Jan. 24, that precedes the Feb. 3 Crosstown ShootOut basketball game between the two schools.

Up to 900 participants are expected to lend a hand, a broom or a brush that day, first gathering at UC’s Fifth Third Arena at Shoemaker Center at 8:30 a.m.  Then, volunteers will work from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

Sponsors of this year’s Helpout are ARAMARK Corporation, Chiquita Brands International Inc., Glidden Paints, Home City Ice Co., The Home Depot Inc., Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, LaRosa’s, Panera Bread, the UC Alumni Association and XU’s Alumni Association.

Volunteers can register for the Helpout at http://www.crosstownhelpout.com or by calling UC’s alumni office at 513-556-4344 or XU’s alumni office at 513-745-3081.
