
UC s Worldfest Celebrates Global Education
The University of Cincinnati celebrates its world impact every spring with its annual Worldfest celebration. Worldfest, first held in 1996, is a week-long series of events to observe UCs world of cultures on campus as well as the top-research universitys worldwide impact. Numerous events are organized by UCs international student organizations.
Worldfest 2011 gets underway on Friday, April 22, and ends with the highly popular, student-organized Taste of India celebration, which will take place from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, May 1, in the Great Hall of TUC.
The Worldfest keynote speaker, award-winning author Juana Bordas, will discuss The Power of WE: Leading our Diverse and Dynamic Community, at 5:30 p.m., Monday, April 25, in MainStreet Cinema of UCs Tangeman University Center (TUC). The event, free and open to the public, will be followed by a Q&A session and book signing in Mick & Macks Contemporary Café, located on the third level of TUC. Bordas is president of Mestiza Leadership International in Denver, an organization that promotes a more diverse and inclusive society through training and leadership services.
Worldfest
UCs Worldfest International Career Forum, sponsored by the Career Development Center, will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, in the Great Hall of TUC
. The event includes an interactive global Monopoly game that holds useful information for students about U.S. and international jobs.
Appointments are required for UC Passport Day, sponsored by UC International. The event makes it easier for members of the university community to apply for a passport by having U.S. passport officials on campus during Passport Day. UC International also picks up the cost of passport photos when Passport Day gets underway on April 26.
The most visible celebration of Worldfest the Worldfest International Festival takes place from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Thursday, April 28, on UCs McMicken Commons. The outdoor festival features food, music, dancing and cultural displays from international student and community organizations. The event is coordinated by UC International.
Worldfest is sponsored by MainStreet, UCs Just Community initiative and Student Activities and Leadership Development, as well as individual programs and offices across the university.
