UC Admissions Events Highlight Diversity of UC s Community and Academic Programs

April 15: UC Admissions Hosts Multicultural Day

By special invitation, underrepresented high school juniors will converge on UC’s dynamic campus for Multicultural Day, with check-in beginning at 8 a.m., Friday, April 15, outside the TUC ExpressMart. The event is expected to draw more than 60 high-achieving students from Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.

Students were invited to the event by UC Admissions on recommendation of their high school counselors. The visitors will learn about financial aid opportunities, speak with representatives of UC’s many academic programs and discover social and support activities provided by UC’s Ethnic Programs and Services and the African American Cultural and Resource Center (AACRC). They’re also invited to join a panel discussion of current students, in order to get a more personal look at the student experience at UC.

UC embraces diversity and inclusion among its core values. By sharing and fueling the talents of people from different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives, UC prepares students for an increasingly global society.

As the day comes to a close, the visitors will take a campus tour of a university that’s highlighted by Forbes as one of the world’s most beautiful college campuses. Thomas Canepa, associate vice president for UC Admissions, says 10,497 prospective students have visited campus this year. “That number surpasses last year’s total number of visitors, as word-of-mouth spreads about the dynamic campus and the university’s excellence in academics, undergraduate research and experiential-learning opportunities,” says Canepa.

April 16: UC Admissions Hosts Bearcat Brunch and Salute to Excellence Program

An invitation-only Bearcat Brunch for high-achieving high school seniors who have either confirmed or were offered admission to the university will get underway with registration at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, April 16, in the TUC ExpressMart. UC Admissions is expecting more than 600 people for the Bearcat Brunch event, including more than 200 students. Students and their families will learn about financial aid opportunities and campus life, enjoy a complimentary brunch at UC’s award-winning MarketPointe@Siddall Dining Center at 11:30 a.m., and get a tour of the residence halls.

Following the brunch, the more than 50 students of color who attended the program will attend the invitation-only, Salute to Excellence reception, from 1:30-3 p.m., in the Great Hall of TUC. Mitchel D. Livingston, chief diversity officer and vice president of Student Affairs, will address the students with opening remarks at 2:30 p.m. The attendees will then hear from a UC student panel that will hold the student perspective of living and learning on UC’s diverse campus.

Students and their families who attend the Salute to Excellence program will also have an opportunity to meet with members of UC’s Diversity Council, representatives of Student Affairs & Services and members of the steering committee of UC’s Just Community, the university’s nationally recognized civic-education program. They will also meet members of UC’s African-American Alumni Association.

The University of Cincinnati is among the nation’s best institutions for a college education, according to The Princeton Review’s 2011 edition of its annual college guide, “The Best 373 Colleges.”

Only about 15 percent of the nation’s four-year colleges are featured in the book, which is the Princeton Review’s flagship college guide.

UC Undergraduate Admissions
