About Green Dot

The Green Dot Strategy is an innovative evidence-based approach to violence prevention, specifically gender-based harassment and/or violence. Green Dot harnesses the power of individual choice to shift social norms, resulting in broad-based culture change. Green Dot is based on a wealth of interdisciplinary research including social change theory, diffusion of innovation, communication, marketing, and bystander intervention.

Green Dot @ UC

Green Dot @ UC will be a campus-wide initiative for ALL students, faculty, and staff across all UC campuses. UC community members can participate in a basic overview program that will teach them how to integrate moments of prevention into their existing relationships and activities.

What is Green Dot?

A Green Dot represents your decision to help create a safer campus by actively promoting safety and making it clear that violence will not be tolerated. It can be actions, choices, words, or attitudes that send a message that:

  1. Violence is not ok with you, and
  2. Everyone is expected to do their part.

Types of Green Dots

  • Asking if someone is okay if you feel or see something concerning
  • Causing a distraction to diffuse a situation
