William L. Mallory, Sr. Scholarship

William L. Mallory, Sr. was a native of Cincinnati, Ohio and a trailblazer who dedicated his life to providing impeccable service to the community.

Mr. Mallory was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 1966, was the first African American Majority Floor Leader, and served in the Ohio legislature for 28 years - sponsoring and co-sponsoring over 600 pieces of legislation, including the first state-wide drug prevention program, the Urban Minority Alcohol Drug Outreach Program.

Through his visionary leadership along with colleagues in the Ohio State Senate, he created the University of Cincinnati Darwin T. Turner Scholars Program in 1976 to provide scholarships to academically talented African American students.  He was also an adjunct professor of Political Science and African American Studies at the University of Cincinnati from 1969 to 1994.

Mr. Mallory was the recipient of numerous awards and was named a Great Living Cincinnatian for his unwavering dedication, commitment, and service to enhancing the quality of life for all mankind.

To celebrate his 80th birthday, his family created a scholarship in his honor to continue to provide educational opportunities to academically talented students.

A man of principle and integrity, his life and legacy continue to serve as an inspiration of excellence in the community and especially to students, alumni, and staff of the Darwin T. Turner Scholars Program.

Through the wishes of his family, in lieu of flowers upon Mr. Mallory's passing (December 10, 2013), we invite friends and family to make memorial contributions to his scholarship through this secure, online giving site.
