Background

This policy applies to all employees except those employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement or an individual employment agreement addressing this topic.

Policy

  1. The University of Cincinnati is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All individuals who believe they are qualified for a position vacancy are encouraged to apply.

  2. A classified University employee who holds a regular appointment and who has completed the probationary period may apply for a position vacancy as an internal applicant.

  3. A classified employee who was terminated as a result of a reduction in force is eligible to apply for a University position as an internal applicant for twelve (12) months from the effective date of termination.

  4. An Unclassified unrepresented employee may only apply during the posting period for positions for which they believe they are qualified.

  5. An Unclassified unrepresented employee who is terminated as a result of a reduction in force is eligible to apply as an external applicant for a University position for which they believe they are qualified. An Unclassified unrepresented employee who is serving their notice period prior to termination as a result of a reduction in force is eligible to apply as an internal applicant for a University position for which they believe they are qualified.

  6. A former employee terminated for cause is ineligible for re-employment at the University.

  7. Employees are permitted reasonable release time from work, as determined by the supervisor, to interview for University positions and to take required civil service examinations.

Procedure

  1. Applicants applying to classified positions must complete an application in the online applicant tracking system in order to be considered for the vacancy.

  2. Applicants for unclassified unrepresented positions must apply as directed in the published advertisement.
