Welcome
Robin Engel in Judge John West's Absence
Welcomed everyone and thanked them for coming to the impromptu meeting. This meeting was not regularly scheduled, but rather added for those members who were available to discuss the outcome of the Tensing trial. Board of Trustees Chairman Rob Richardson was welcomed to the meeting and provided comments on behalf of the BoT and the University.
Updates
- External Monitor Selection – Exiger - Dr. Engel discussed the Exiger contract. The CAC previously recommended that Exiger begin their monitoring process on January 1, 2017. Changes in the timeline have been made to the contract and the paperwork has been processed. In the interim, Exiger is gathering information and getting organized to begin on January 1. Jeff Schlanger will be on-site in the first quarter of the year, perhaps as early as mid/late January. o Discussed whether or not we should have a community forum for Exiger visit. CAC Members agree we should have a forum possibly in February to announce Exiger’s plans/goals to the community.
- Discussed timing of the Exiger visit and the MOU with the City of Cincinnati. Dr. Engel noted that the External Monitor and the MOU are not directly linked. Rather the external monitoring will proceed as currently planned, contractually required, and Board of Trustees mandated.
- Update on Off-Campus Shooting - Dr. Engel discussed the homicide of a 17 year-old that occurred near campus the night before. Also discussed violent crime trends in recent weeks near the campus. UCPD and CPD are working together on a collaborative crime prevention strategy.
