UC Public Safety at a Glance
UC’s Department of Public Safety provides all public safety and emergency response resources for the university including UC Blue Ash and UC Clermont. Primary sections within the department are:
- Police: patrol, investigations, 911 dispatch, crime prevention, security and NightRide
- Fire Safety: inspect campus buildings to ensure facilities meet fire and safety codes; maintenance and testing of facility smoke detectors
- Security Systems: keys, locks, ID Badges, intrusion alarms, fingerprinting and background checks
- 911 Dispatch: Answer non-emergency lines for Public Safety and provide radio for police, security, fire, parking and ambulance services.
Police
- 72 police officers and 26 security guards
- UC Police is a fully empowered law enforcement agency that operates 24-hours a day, 365 days a year
- All UC Police officers are certified by the state of Ohio and have full police authority
- Police patrol area – generally one mile radius around UC’s Uptown campuses
- Police patrols include: cruiser (car), motorcycle, bicycle, Segway and walking beats
Fire Safety/Security Systems
- Responsible for the physical security of the University
- Produce and issue keys and photo ID’s, provide background checks and fingerprinting services
- Manage 50,000+ locks and university’s ID card system
- Monitor and maintain indoor and outdoor security camera systems
- Test, maintain, repair all fire protection systems including more than 15,000 fire alarm devices
- Inspect all campus facilities and buildings to ensure compliance with fire and life safety codes
911 Dispatch
- 12 dispatchers, Center is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
- UC is one of the few universities in the country that has its own 911 system.
- Dispatchers are certified by Association of Public Safety Communications Officials
- Provide radio dispatch for police, security, fire, parking and ambulance services.
- Answer non-emergency lines for Public Safety, blue help phones, elevator phones.
- Monitor all fire, access control, intrusion, and hold-up alarms.
