Block Final Exams

Guidelines

  • All sections of a class must agree to utilize a Block Final Exam for a request to be approved.
  • There must be at least two sections for a course to request a Block Final Exam.
  • Block Final Exam Request forms must be submitted by end of second week of classes.
  • Once approved, the final exam must be held at the posted approved Block Final Exam times.
  • Due to limited large classroom space, the requested room capacity for Block Final Exams may be met with multiple large classrooms beyond the number of instructors for the class. In this case, the department is responsible for providing proctor support as fewer rooms may not be available for the requested capacity.

Notes

If a final examination—comprehensive or not—is part of class requirements, it must be given only during the final examination week according to the schedule above. Final examinations administered earlier than the appointed time, either during the prior week or during the final examination week, are not permitted. The sole exception to this policy is block exams. We ask for your complete cooperation by adhering strictly to this schedule for all class examinations. Appeals for any changes should be sent to the University Registrar.

Any student having three examinations on one day can request postponement or reassignment of one of them provided it can be worked out with the instructor of one of the courses in question.

Asynchronous classes will have remote/online exams as determined by the instructor. Instructors should be prepared to offer remote/online make–up exams if a student has an exam conflict.

Synchronous online classes will have remote/online exams as determined by the exam schedule above.

The examination schedule does not apply to graduate and in–service classes that meet once a week, usually in the late afternoon (4:00 p.m. or later) and are largely attended by part–time students. Final examinations in these classes are to be given during the examination week at the regularly–scheduled class time.

The examination schedule does not apply to half–session classes. Final examinations in these classes are to be given during the last class meeting at the regularly–scheduled class time.
