Procedure for Student Review of Accommodation Decision
Accessibility Resources is responsible for analyzing all relevant information when making accommodation decisions. On occasion, a student may not agree with the accommodations offered to them. In this situation, as required by Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act, the university has a process for prompt review and resolution outlined in this procedure. The student may reach out to the Executive Director/ADA Coordinator directly, as identified in the Disability Grievance Procedure, for guidance or questions about this procedure.
If a student disagreed with the accommodations that have been offered or approved, the review process is as follows
Step one: Point of Contact Review.
The student initiates a request for a meeting with their Access Coordinator to review the request and consider any additional information the student may provide. The Access Coordinator will meet with the student within five (5) working days of the receipt of the request.
Step two: Office Director Review.
If the student is not satisfied with the outcome of the point of contact meeting, they should submit a request for review to the director of the Accessibility Resources Office. The director, or their designee, will meet with the student within three (3) days of the receipt of the request. If the director was the initial decision-maker, the student should advance to step three.
Step three: ADA Coordinator Review.
If the student is not satisfied with the outcome of step two or is referred to step two by the director, the student should submit a request for review via email, to the ADA Coordinator/Executive Director for Accessibility. The Executive Director, or their designee, will offer a meeting with the individual within three (3) working days of the receipt of the complaint.
After the meeting, the Executive Director, or their designee, will make a decision about the outcome. The decision will generally be one of the following
Upholding the accommodation review decision of the Accessibility Resources Director in its entirety
Reversing the decision of the AR Director in part or in whole
Sending the decision of the Accessibility Resources Director back to the AR office for reconsideration and further discussion with the student
The Executive Director or their designee will provide the student with a written decision via UC email.
Step four: Office of Equal Opportunity Appeal.
If a student is not satisfied with the outcome of this process, they made file a formal request of concern through the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access
