Darwin T. Turner Scholars Program Signature Programs

Scholarship awards are not limited to financial benefits. Since its inception, the Darwin T. Turner Scholars Program has built a strong sense of leadership development, community engagement and personal commitment within a close-knit, supportive community of scholars. In an effort to facilitate a sense of community and family, the Darwin T. Turner Scholars Program hosts 4 key signature programs throughout the academic year.

The Darwin T. Turner Induction Ceremony occurs in the Fall semester of each academic year. The ceremony provides a space and opportunity to recognize our new incoming class of Freshmen, and formally welcomes and inducts them into the Darwin T. Turner Scholarship Program. This is a ceremony of immense significance, as all scholars come together to honor the legacy of Darwin T. Turner and welcome the freshmen into the Turner family.

The Breakfast of Champions is a Turner signature program that occurs each academic year in the Spring. The event seeks to honor the contributions of staff and faculty at the University of Cincinnati. Darwin T. Turner scholars nominate staff and faculty members whom have positively contributed to their academic, personal, and/or professional success during their time at the University of Cincinnati. These staff and faculty members are honored during the breakfast and receive medals of appreciation from the students.

By far one of the most popular and anticipated programs of the academic year, Turner Olympics occurs each academic year in the Spring. Turner Olympics provides the space for some healthy competition between each cohort of students. Scholars compete in a variety of activities, including basketball, tug of war, relay races, etc. Though there is not prize to winning, the cohort who ends up on top wins bragging rights for the year!

The Darwin T. Turner End of the Year Ceremony provides the Office of Ethnic Programs and Services with one last time to bring all of our wonderful Darwin T. Turner Scholars together. The ceremony provides a space to not only recognize the incredible accomplishments (personal, professional, and academic) of our students, but also serves as our chance to say farewell to our graduating seniors. Filled with incredible memories, lots of laughter, and some tears, the end of the year ceremony is by far one of the most beloved Turner signature programs offered to our students.
