My UHP experience in five words
Enriching my education, fulfilling, challenging
Why UHP is for me
UHP has provided me with more opportunities that supplement my education at UC outside of the classroom. UHP has allowed me to pursue my interests beyond my course curriculum and has taught me how to reflect on these experiences to implement the lessons I have learned into my everyday life.
An honors experience I'll never forget
My favorite honors experience was my self-designed experience where I participated in a medical outreach trip to Cusco, Peru with the organization Volunteers Around the World (VAW). We staffed a free clinic for local families where we took their vitals signs, and all patients could see a doctor and receive free medications. Making an impact on all of the patients health was such a fulfilling opportunity and learning more about the culture and medical field in Peru was fascinating. I also got to meet other UC students on the trip who have similar interests and passions, and we got to explore the city together, including touring Machu Picchu.
Advice for anyone interested in UHP
Broaden your horizons! Don't feel boxed in by your major and course curriculum. Take this opportunity in college and through UHP to explore your personal interests and passions. By doing so, you will be happier, feel less burnout and become a better person overall.
What my future holds
This year, I plan to seek out more opportunities in research and clinical experience to learn more about the healthcare field and how advancements are made within it to better patient outcomes and quality of life. I have learned through UHP to continually find opportunities to grow as person and student, so I am excited to challenge myself this year and tackle whatever comes my way!
