INTR3040/JOUR3140/POL3010: Depolarizing Politics / Depolarizing Communities
Instructors: Brian Calfano and Eugene Rutz
Description
This seminar will investigate the sources of polarization in our country and in society. We will look at the role of political parties and systems in creating and emphasizing divisions. We will examine media to evaluate how the creation and consumption of media (traditional sources, social media, and newer media outlets) leads to polarized ways of thinking. More importantly, the course will require students to critically reflect on their own polarization and provide tools and strategies for lessening polarization in communities.
