Returning Residents
For the 2024-25 academic year, up to 1,500 spaces were set aside for returning upperclass residents in eligible University Housing communities. This aligns with the amount set aside for the current academic year. Space is limited.
The process for contract renewal for 2024-25 began on January 29, 2024 with the Intent to Renew form being made available in the housing portal. The Intent to Renew form closed February 5 at 12 p.m. (noon).
As of March 27, 2024 all current residents who submitted their Intent to Renew form by the deadline were offered to apply for renewal housing.
Important Notes
Students who do not currently live in university housing (including transfer students, students who opted to live off-campus after their first year, and so on) are eligible to join the housing waitlist. Students on the waitlist are not guaranteed an assignment and are encouraged to explore all available options for obtaining housing.
University Housing will continue to make offers to apply to students on the waitlist as space allows in designated upperclass communities.
Understanding The Renewal Process
Students will be assigned a priority group based on their Cohort and Honors status. Most recent Cohort groups will receive the highest priority, as will Honors students.
Students in each priority group will be selected in random order. Once all of a priority group has been offered the chance to apply, University Housing will begin making offers to the next priority group.
Any students not selected to apply initially will be automatically placed on the waitlist. Students placed on the waitlist will retain their randomly assigned order within the priority groups.
University Housing will select students from the Intent to Renew pool in the following order:
- Cohort 24-25 Honors students
- Cohort 24-25 all other students
- Cohort 23-24 Honors students
- Cohort 23-24 all other students
- Cohort 22-23 Honors students
- Cohort 22-23 all other students
- Cohort 21-22 Honors students
- Cohort 21-22 all other students
- Cohort 20-21 Honors students
- Cohort 20-21 all other students
- All other Cohorts and graduate students
Roommate requests must be other students who completed the intent to renew AND were selected to apply. We cannot accommodate requests to live with students who were not selected. Note that roommate groups are capped at two people, which includes yourself and one roommate request.
You are highly encouraged to have a backup plan in case a person you might like to live with is not offered the chance to apply. Find support on roommate relationships.
Students with accommodations designated "Priority Housing" by Accessibility Resources will be able to apply for housing directly and will not complete the Intent to Renew form. Students will receive directions from University Housing via email in mid-January.
Students with other accommodations not designated as "Priority Housing" should complete the Intent to Renew process described on the page above. If selected to apply, previously documented housing accommodations will continue in the next term. University Housing can assist students with getting an assignment that meets their approved accommodation.
For questions about your approved housing accommodation, including whether you qualify for priority housing, please contact Accessibility Resources. For more information about requesting a new or revised housing accommodation, please see Accessibility Resources' Housing Accommodations page.
Any students not initially offered the opportunity to apply will be automatically placed on a waitlist. We are not able to guarantee assignments to students on the waitlist.
Offers for students on the waitlist to apply for Renewal housing will be made using the same method as the initial assignments process. Students will be assigned a priority group based on their Cohort and Honors status and random assignment placement within their group. More recent Cohort groups will receive the highest priority, as will Honors students.
Students in each priority group are selected in random order. Students placed on the waitlist retain their randomly assigned order within the priority groups.
University Housing will make offers to those on the waitlist in the randomly determined order as space becomes available (cancellations, offers not completed, etc.). Once all of a priority group has been offered the chance to apply, University Housing will begin making offers to the next priority group.
University Housing will select students from the Renewal Waitlist in the following order:
- Cohort 24-25 Honors students
- Cohort 24-25 all other students
- Cohort 23-24 Honors students
- Cohort 23-24 all other students
- Cohort 22-23 Honors students
- Cohort 22-23 all other students
- Cohort 21-22 Honors students
- Cohort 21-22 all other students
- Cohort 20-21 Honors students
- Cohort 20-21 all other students
- All other Cohorts and graduate students
