Gender Inclusive Housing

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to define the manner in which University Housing will go to help transgender and/or gender non-conforming students obtain suitable, safe housing that is keeping with their gender identity/expression.

Background

Transgender and/or gender non-conforming students are valued members of the university housing residential community at the University of Cincinnati.

In meeting the needs of the student, University Housing staff will recognize and respect the gender identity the student has established with the university. Staff will not ask for any more information than required to meet the student’s housing needs. All disclosed information will be kept strictly confidential.

University Housing will work with the student to find a residence hall space best meets their gender expression, gender identity, comfort in transition and bathroom needs.

Next Steps

Students who require gender-inclusive housing should indicate the need while completing the housing application in the portal. On the housing application, you will be asked to provide us with more information about your needs and preferences. All disclosed information will remain confidential and only be used to place you in the best space. Students will be contacted if additional information is needed. Housing assignments for first year students will be released in summer before the next academic year.

Room rates will be consistent with our other undergraduate population living in the residence hall communities.

If you would like to withdraw interest or have additional questions, please email Assistant Director of Academic Iniatives, Jordan Williams.
