The Learning Commons is not currently hiring

...but we will be soon! The student employment application for the spring 2025 semester will open in early September 2024. Keep checking our website and Instagram for updates, and click on each photo below to learn about the positions we typically hire.

Student Employment

Each semester, the Learning Commons hires a variety of undergraduate and graduate students to tutor, coach, and mentor fellow Bearcats in our wide array of services. Each program under the Learning Commons umbrella has a different mission and requires different qualifications for student employees. Check out our employment video and click on each image to learn more about the different positions.

How much do you pay?

All Learning Commons student employees start at $12.00 per hour and have the opportunity to earn raises each semester. Student employees serving in leadership roles, called coordinators, earn $14.00 per hour.

Can I apply for more than one Learning Commons position?

Yes, Learning Commons applicants are permitted to apply for two positions. However, it is not guaranteed that you will get hired for both positions. Student preference and program need are both taken into consideration during hiring decisions.

I already have an on-campus job. Can I still apply?

Yes, so long as you do not exceed your maximum hours each week and both positions work in your schedule. Domestic students are permitted to work 24 hours per week and international students are permitted to work 20 hours per week across all on-campus positions.

Does Learning Commons employment count as a co-op?

Yes! Working at the Learning Commons is a part-time, on-campus co-op. Staff are required during initial employment to take a one-credit hour COOP 2000 professional development course facilitated by the Division of Experience-Based Learning and Career Education. Exemptions are available, and a 0-credit option is offered to make it free of cost.

COOP 2000 enrollment provides Learning Commons employees with professional development coaching, experiential learning credit opportunities, and valuable feedback from faculty, essential for honing leadership skills and translating on-campus work experiences into future employment prospects.

Note: This course is the only way to earn an Honors experience through the Learning Commons during your first semester of employment. Questions about your Honors experience requirements can be directed to your Honors Advisor.

Why do you hire so early for each semester?

The Learning Commons is one of the largest student employers on UC's campus. We offer a variety of services with different staffing needs and timelines. Additionally, some of our programs are embedded in courses each semester, meaning they start early! Our timeline is created to best prioritize student academic support needs.
