Jane Cox

Jane Cox, a Louisville, Kentucky native, graduated in 2021 with a degree in speech language and hearing sciences with a minor in Spanish. During her undergraduate studies at UC, she served as vice president of the multicultural concerns in communication sciences and disorders club, exploring topics such as bilingual and gender affirming speech pathology, as well as linguistic prejudice. Her senior year, Jane, alongside the club’s president, presented the organization as a case study for the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association`s event Raw Conversations: Beyond the petition: How to be anti-racist in CSD (Communication Sciences and Disorders). 

As a UC student, Jane also co-created a virtual bilingual children’s summer camp, encouraging bilingual children aged 5-9 to recognize the power of speaking multiple languages. For her senior capstone, she investigated the experiences of hispanic immigrant mothers of children with speech disorders. Since graduation, she has lived in Madrid, Spain as an English language and cultural assistant, working at a bilingual elementary school. In the future, she hopes to work as a bilingual speech language pathologist. In addition to Spanish, Jane has independently studied Portuguese since the age of 18, and hopes to continue improving upon her Portuguese with a Brazil Fulbright award.
