Nicholas Shaw
Nicholas Shaw is a third-year Medical Sciences student at the College of Medicine, pursuing his Bachelor of Science. Nicholas is a relatively recent member of the University Honors Program and has been awarded the Undergraduate Research Fellowship from the Office of Undergraduate Research. He has conducted research at both Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) as well as the UC College of Medicine (UCCOM). At CCHMC, he studied neural stem cell differentiation and migration, and at UCCOM, he is working to determine novel structures of proteins. Nicholas has been supported as a 2021 UC Graduate Education Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow and has recently been named as a 2022 Barry Goldwater Scholar. In the summer of 2022, he will be conducting research at Harvard Medical School as a Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology Fellow.
Outside of research, Nicholas is an engaged student leader, serving as the founder and president of Fermented Friends, a UC student organization educating students about fermented foods. He also enjoys running and rock climbing. After graduation, Nicholas plans to pursue a Ph.D. focusing on biological chemistry and structural biology.
