CLEP (College Level Examination Program)

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a group of standardized tests created and administered by the College Board.These tests assess college-level knowledge in thirty-six subject areas and provide a mechanism for earning college credits without taking college courses. 

The University of Cincinnati accepts CLEP test scores for course credit. Please consult with your advisor before taking a CLEP exam to determine how CLEP credits may apply to your degree program. 

UC Course / CLEP Equivalency Key

UC Testing Services administers CLEP Exams by appointment, year-round during our External Testing Services hours of operation. Most CLEP exams are 90 minutes long, except Spanish with Writing (110 minutes), However, appointments are set for two hours to allow for administrative time.

There is a two part registration process to take a CLEP Exam with UC Testing Services. Follow these instructions: 

  1. Find, Register, and Pay for your desired CLEP Exam on the College Board Website. College Board charges $93.00 for CLEP Exam tickets. 
  2. Make and Pay for a testing appointment on UC Testing Services' Registration Portal. Our office charges a $35.00 proctoring fee for CLEP Exams. If taking more than one CLEP exam, you must make multiple appointments with our services. From our registration portal, choose:
    1. Choose a group: "External Testing Services | Credentialing | Exams for other Colleges"
    2. Choose a group: "CLEP"
    3. Choose an exam: "CLEP Exam ($35.00)" 
    4. Then, choose your preferred date/test time, complete your details and acknowledgements, and add to your cart. Once you complete payment, your testing appointment at our center will be booked! 

On test day, be sure to bring the following items: 

  • Your CLEP Registration Ticket from College Board (printed out or shown on your electronic device). 
  • A non-expired, government-issued photo ID: as listed below:
    • Current driver’s license, passport, or other government-issued identification that includes your photograph and signature. 
    • For military (DANTES) test-takers: bring your military ID and Social Security card.
    •  For home-school students: if you do not have the required government-issued ID, please complete a Student ID Form, which is available on the College Board website
    • If you fail to present an appropriate ID, you will not be tested.
