General
What does this new system mean for students? Expand
UC is committed to excelling in eLearning. Enhancing Blackboard—the university’s learning management system (LMS)—is one of the first steps toward achieving this goal. The new system provides increased reliability, improved tools for online interaction and collaboration with instructors and classmates. It will effectively streamline the learning process and make the experience, overall, a better one.
What are the benefits of the upgrade? Expand
Some of the advantages of the updated version of the Blackboard software includes:
- Improved browser support
- Global navigation menu that is always available
- Updated content editor with Video Everywhere capability
- Inline assignment grading
- Automatic Re-grade feature to identify and correct ineffective test questions
- Resolution to many of the current course copy issues for faculty
Will there be training available for the new version of Blackboard? Expand
Open Town Halls and trainings are being held for the UC community to highlight new features and answer questions. Click here for a full schedule of trainings. For students, training modules will be placed within Blackboard, so that it is available when and where they need it most.
Will Student Government still be able to use the poll feature? Expand
Absolutely, Student Government will still be able to use the poll feature, along with other existing modules.
What's the best new feature for faculty? Expand
It’s hard to answer across the board; however, we feel that the inline grading will have the greatest impact in increasing efficiency for instructors, as well as, streamline grading assignments.
What's the best new feature for students? Expand
Again, everyone will find different features to be the most beneficial for them. The new interface is more user-friendly with a modern look with support across modern browsers. The video capability is also a great feature for students. Students will also be able to create a Profile, just like Facebook. This will allow students to create “learning spaces”, or study groups through a portal.

Technical/Support
Will all of my course content be compatible with the new version of Blackboard? Expand
Most course content will be compatible with the new Service Pack; however, some content may rely on packages that no longer exist in the new version. Most audio, visual, and interactive content will translate. If you have any questions regarding compatibility please contact the Help Desk at 513-556-HELP (4357) or email helpdesk@uc.edu.
When will Fall course shells be available? Expand
Fall Semester 2014 course shells will be created Monday, June 2. Student enrollments for these courses will be added Friday, July 25.
The scrollbar isn't showing in Grade Center. How do I fix this? Expand
Unless scrollbars are set to “Always Appear,” the vertical scrollbar may not appear in the Grade Center when using Apple Safari or Google Chrome on Apple Mac OS X.
To change scrollbar settings:
- Click the Apple icon in the toolbar and from the context menu select “System Preferences…”
- Click the “General” icon.
- Under “Show scroll bars:” select “Always.”
- Close “System Preferences” and refresh the Grade Center page.
Course Migration Tool
Will I be able to export/import my course content from the current version to the new version of Blackboard? Expand
You will be able to export course content from any courses you have access to in the current version of Blackboard to any courses you have access to in the new version of Blackboard with the Course Migration Tool. We encourage you to attend a faculty training should you choose this route.
UCIT is automatically migrating the past three years of course content to the new system. View their progress by visiting the course migration timeline.
Why can't I see courses from more recent terms? Expand
You will only see courses that you have taught before 11A and are not being migrated to the new system automatically. If you are missing a course that has been created since 11A please notify helpdesk@uc.edu.
Who can request for a course/organization to be migrated? Expand
Only users that are listed as an instructor in a course or leader in an organization.
How long will it take for my course/organization to show up in Blackboard? Expand
This can take 2-3 business days depending on how large the course/organization is.
