What is Peer Tutoring?

Peer Tutoring is free, one-on-one tutoring for UC students with subject-specific tutors. Our dedicated tutors are fellow students who undergo ongoing training to support classroom learning. All Peer Tutors are available for online appointments, and most are also available for on-campus appointments. Tutoring is available for over 300 undergraduate courses, including math, science, languages, and business.

How does scheduling work?

Online and in-person Peer Tutoring is scheduled through TracCloud. You can schedule appointments for 30, 60, or 90 minutes. You can schedule an appointment up to 7 days in advance, and all appointments must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance.

I can't make my appointment. How can I cancel it?

All cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance through your online account in TracCloud or by calling the Learning Commons Front Desk. Cancellations less than 24 hours notice will result in a No-Show occurrence.

Will my Peer Tutor help me with my homework?

Not directly. The Learning Commons empowers you to become an independent learner by ensuring you understand the concepts necessary to complete your coursework on your own. Services do not directly support homework or graded assignments, but you can bring pre-submitted assignments that won't be resubmitted for credit, extra practice problems from class or textbooks, your textbook, your course Canvas page, or any other materials to review with a Peer Tutor.

If you only have homework, your Peer Tutor will help you find or develop alternative activities to work on together. Your homework helps develop and demonstrate your understanding of course content, preparing you for exams. By helping you grasp course concepts, your Peer Tutor ensures you're ready to complete your homework independently.

What should I bring to my Peer Tutoring appointment?

Please bring class materials like your textbook and notes. For online appointments, we recommend that you share screenshots of any questions from your textbook or class notes that you don't understand.

How do I access online Peer Tutoring?

Online Peer Tutoring is scheduled through TracCloud, just like in-person Peer Tutoring. Once you schedule an online appointment, you will receive an email with a Zoom link to your session. Make sure you download Zoom before your session to ensure you can meet your Peer Tutor on time!

Do you have tutoring for courses about the 4000-level courses?

No, we do not support courses above the 4000-level at this time.

How can I apply to be a Peer Tutor?

Visit the Peer Tutoring Employment webpage to learn more about the positions.

Though we offer Peer Tutoring for over 300 courses, we know there may be courses we don't currently support that you'd like to request tutoring for. If your course doesn't have a tutor or you can't make any of the current tutoring times, please fill out our Tutor Request form.

Currently, we do not offer tutoring in languages other than English. For information about support in other languages, please contact the CEDAR Language Resource Center.
