What classes do Exploratory students register for?
- For a student that is truly exploratory, classes will consist of a combination of general education courses required for all majors and free elective courses. For students with a major(s) in mind, the courses will consist of general education requirements and courses required for the specific major in mind. Your Exploratory Advisor will help you create a schedule that best aligns with your personal goals.
When can I change into the major I want?
- This is a complex question, and the answer is a little different for each student. This depends heavily on which major you want to transition into. You must meet the transition requirements for the major, complete an application process, abide by deadlines, etc. Our advisors will work with you to ensure that you have the opportunity to fulfill the requirements, are aware of the application process and deadlines.
Who can meet with an Exploratory Advisor?
- Prospective students interested in learning more about the Center for Exploratory Studies may schedule time with our Recruitment team. Please call 513-556-5860 to schedule an appointment. Current students in the Exploratory major should refer to their assigned advisor. Current students outside of the Exploratory major should refer to the Transition Advising Center. Please call 513-556-9000 to schedule an appointment.
What are my chances of getting into a competitive major?
- Students’ chances of being accepted into a competitive major are based on several factors that can be hard to predict. Such as transition requirements, number of available spots, overall GPA, how well a student performed in required courses, etc. Strong study habits and time management skills are a big part of any student’s success. This is especially true for students seeking admission into a competitive major.
How is major exploration different from career exploration?
- Major exploration involves understanding different majors, fields of study, coursework, transition requirements, academic skills, etc. This process is centered around a student learning more about themselves and finding their best fit major. Career exploration, on the other hand, is the process of identifying and exploring potentially satisfying occupations. When and how do I meet with my assigned Exploratory Advisor?
- Students can meet with their assigned advisor at any time by scheduling an appointment through My Bearcat Network or by calling 513-556-5860. All first-year Exploratory students are required to meet with their assigned advisor at least three times per year; once during orientation, once during fall semester, and once during spring semester. Students that have completed a significant amount of coursework or have a GPA lower than 2.3 are also required to meet with their advisors to assess progress toward a best fit major.

- The Center for Exploratory Studies is committed to empowering students to choose their best fit major through highly personalized Exploratory advising and innovative academic programming. As an Exploratory student, you will be assigned to one of our professional advisors who you will meet with one-on-one to determine which services and steps will best serve your academic needs and goals. Depending on your personal needs, an individualized advising plan will be created which may be include some of the following services:
