UC is Nationally Recognized for Serving the Educational Needs of Veterans
For the fifth year in a row, the University of Cincinnati is highlighted among 20 percent of the nations colleges, universities and trade schools as being an education destination for veterans. UC was named to the
2014 Military Friendly Schools®
list by Victory Media.
a veteran-owned business with publications including G.I. Jobs, G.I. Education, Military Spouse and Vetrepreneur magazines, highlighted UC for embracing the nations military service members, veterans and spouses as students and for ensuring their success on campus.
Inclusion on the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools® shows UCs commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students, says Sean Collins, vice president at Victory Media and a nine-year Navy veteran. The need for education is growing, and our mission is to provide the military community with transparent, world-class resources to assist in their search for schools.
The Military Friendly Schools® website features the list, interactive tools and search functionality to help military veterans find the best school to fit their unique needs and preferences. The 1,868 institutions on the 2014 list exhibit leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience. UC is included for having world-class programs and support for students on campus, academic accreditation, credit policies and other services for those who served.
Over the past academic year, UC opened a new,
to provide increased support and services for UCs growing veterans population which is estimated at around 1,200, in addition to around 250 military dependants enrolled at UC. Jack Johnson, a combat veteran of the 101st Airborne Division, is program manager of the new center.
Over the past academic year, UC contributed $54,305 toward tuition waivers for students in the federal Yellow Ribbon Program, which expands tuition benefits to post-9/11 veterans, says Johnson, adding that UC also accepts military credit as reported on military transcripts.
In addition, Johnson says that UC is staffed with two full-time counselors and an admissions advisor dedicated to the needs of veterans. UC also offers in-state tuition without residency requirements for active-duty military students.
Now in its fifth year, the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools® was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 10,000 schools nationwide approved for VA tuition funding. Each year, schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year via approved methodology, criteria and weightings developed by Victory Media with the assistance of an academic advising board consisting of educators from schools across the country.
The 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools® will be highlighted in the annual Guide to Military Friendly Schools® that will be distributed in print and digital formats to hundreds of thousands of active and former military personnel in early October.
