UC’s second annual Day of Giving set for April 2

Alumni, students and friends will come together on April 2 to support the University of Cincinnati on its second annual Day of Giving. The 24-hour celebration of philanthropy is part of UC’s Bicentennial Community Week and will focus on unleashing #BoldlyBearcat spirit to help UC tackle local and global challenges.

Organizers anticipate increased results over the inaugural event in 2018, which included 148 UC Day of Giving ambassadors, more than 1,700 gifts and more than $240,000 raised in support of programs at UC and UC Health.

“UC Day of Giving is just that — one day a year where we ask all Bearcats to give back to their alma mater and UC Health,” says UC Foundation President Peter Landgren. “Every day, I see the impact of philanthropy on our campus: scholarships, life-saving research, innovation and professorships. To be part of the movement that creates such incredible outcomes is life-affirming. I ask all Bearcats to join me in giving back on April 2.”

Funds raised from the 2018 Day of Giving are benefitting UC students today. Fifth-year student Beth Palmer received the 2019 College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) Alumni Endowed Scholarship. Alumni and friends of CEAS raised over $9,000 for the fund last year.

“I'm so grateful for everyone who's donates to UC because my scholarships have allowed me to not worry about how to pay for tuition and to just enjoy college,” Palmer said.

UC Day of Giving has expanded in several ways, including:

  • Each college has at least one matching gift, which allows supporters to double the impact of their donations.
  • Ambassadors have more ways to champion their favorite UC causes while winning points and prizes on Elevate UC (UC’s social media advocacy platform).

There are three timed challenges that groups can leverage to their advantage:

  1. The Early Bird Challenge rewards the fund with the most gifts between 7 and 9 a.m. EDT.
  2. When the clock strikes 11 a.m., the Lunchtime Challenge award is up for grabs to the fund with the most gifts between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. EDT.
  3. The Happy Hour Challenge offers another chance for the top fund to collect a bonus for the most gifts between 5 and 7 p.m. EDT.

Finally, the Leaderboard Challenges are back with prizes to the top three colleges in the categories of dollars raised and gifts collected. Prizes will be awards to each college’s designated scholarship fund.
