
UC nephrology faculty named editor-in-chief of national journal
Charuhas Thakar, MD, professor and director of the Division of Nephrology Kidney CARE program at the University of Cincinnati (UC) College of Medicine has been named as the new editor-in-chief of the National Kidney Foundation journal Advances in Chronic Kidney Disease (ACKD). ACKD is a bimonthly journal that focuses in-depth on the care and management of people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and those at risk of CKD.
“It is an honor to serve in this role, and further the knowledge about kidney diseases, and I am thankful to the National Kidney Foundation for this opportunity,” says Thakar. “ACKD fills a niche within the information stream, by providing its audience updates on cutting edge topics in the discipline of kidney disorders. Each issue compiles in-depth scholarly reviews of carefully selected topics relevant to the field of kidney diseases. I look forward to the opportunity to lead a top-tier team of associate editors, editorial board, and other member of the editorial team.”
Thakar is nationally recognized for his research related to acute kidney injury (AKI) in surgical and critical care settings. His work has been published in journals in the field of nephrology and internal medicine, including the Journal of American Society of Nephrology, Kidney International, the American Journal of Kidney Diseases (AJKD), Annals of Internal Medicine and the Journal of Clinical Investigation, among others. He has served as a guest editor of AJKD and the Program Committee of NKF’s Spring Clinical Meetings. His editorial work also includes serving as a co-editor of a textbook, Peri-operative AKI, as well as guest editor to Anesthesiology Clinics and Cardiology Clinics. He is a renowned national and international speaker in his field of expertise related to AKI and health care delivery in nephrology.
He has been funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs, the National Institutes of Health, and other foundations for his research and scholarly work. As an administrator, Thakar oversees a tri-partite portfolio of a large academic division.
Thakar will begin his tenure at ACKD in January of 2020.
