Lindner College of Business officially welcomes new dean

Marianne Lewis begins her tenure as the first woman to lead the University of Cincinnati's nationally ranked business college

The first day at a new job can make anyone a little nervous, but not Marianne Lewis, the new dean of the Carl H. Lindner College of Business.

Over a reception with coffee and doughnuts, university faculty, administrators and staff gave Lewis a warm welcome — or, welcome back — to Lindner.

University administrators, faculty and staff gathered at the new Carl H. Lindner Hall to welcome Lewis back to the Carl H. Lindner College of Business as the college's new dean.

Kristi A. Nelson, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Cincinnati, introduced Lewis, who spent nearly 20 years at UC before joining Cardiff University as a UK Fulbright scholar in 2014. In 2015, Lewis was named dean and professor of management at Cass Business School. She served in that role before being appointed as dean of the Lindner College of Business in March 2019.

Kristi A. Nelson, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Cincinnati, introduced Marianne Lewis at the welcome reception for the new dean.

“We are so excited for Marianne as she begins to lead the Carl H. Lindner College of Business, which is in an exciting chapter with record enrollment and the opening of its new building,” said Nelson. “She is a phenomenal leader who embodies the passion and innovative spirit that will elevate this college to new heights.”

Lewis thanked all who attended the welcoming reception and referenced the many ways she, the college and UC have changed.

“I see so many former colleagues and new faces, which is both welcoming and energizing,” said Lewis. “I am impressed by how Lindner has continued to rise and expand, and by UC’s exciting strategic direction, which will propel us into the future.

"As for me, I’m still the Marianne that many of you know, but I’ve grown and changed, too. I’m excited to apply learnings from my entire career to collaborate with our faculty, staff and alumni so we provide the best learning experiences for our students and future business leaders.”

Marianne Lewis spent nearly 20 years at UC before joining Cardiff University as a UK Fulbright scholar in 2014 and Cass Business School as dean and professor of management in 2015.

Both Nelson and Lewis recognized and thanked Nicolas Williams, PhD, who served as interim dean from June 2018, for his service and leadership.

Lewis joined UC and the Lindner College of Business in 1997 as an assistant professor of management. From 2002 to 2006, she served as associate dean for innovation and program development and became director of the Kolodzik Business Scholars program in 2007. In 2009 she was named associate dean for undergraduate programs. She held both positions until 2014, when she joined Cardiff University as a UK Fulbright scholar. In 2015, Lewis was named dean and professor of management at Cass Business School, and served in that role before returning to Lindner in 2019.

I’m excited to apply learnings from my entire career to collaborate with our faculty, staff and alumni so we provide the best learning experiences for our students and future business leaders.
