UC Law student awarded scholarship from MLB Player’s Trust
Congratulations to University of Cincinnati College of Law student Rachel Rekowski, who recently received the 2020 Michael Weiner Scholarship for Labor Studies from the Major League Baseball Player’s Trust.
Rekowski, a second-year student, was one of four law student winners who received the $10,000 scholarship from the Player’s Trust, the charitable arm of the players’ union.
Scholarship recipients were honored for their demonstrated achievement and commitment to pursuing careers dedicated to improving workers’ lives. The award is designed to assist law students with costs for the 2020-2021 academic year.
Major League players launched the scholarship program in 2014 to commemorate the life of Michael Weiner, the organization’s late executive director. Wiener lost his 15-month battle with an inoperable brain tumor in 2013. The scholarship recognizes and supports the efforts of people who are passionate about and dedicated to improving the lives of workers – characteristics embodied by Weiner in his life, his studies and throughout his 25-year career with the Players Association. To date, the program has distributed over $290,000.
