UC alumnus named chairman of S&P Global
Lindner College of Business congratulates alumnus, donor on latest achievement
A University of Cincinnati alumnus was named non-executive chairman of the board of S&P Global.
Richard Thornburgh, BBA ’74, HON ’09, has been a longtime leader in the financial services industry.
“I look forward to continuing my work on the Board of S&P Global, and it is an honor for me to take on the role of Chairman,” Thornburgh said in the release. “Over the past nine years I have seen the company successfully address significant strategic challenges and opportunities, while transforming from a conglomerate to an operating company model.”
Thornburgh has served as an independent director of S&P Global since 2011 and chair of the board’s finance committee since 2016. Previously, he held key positions with Credit Suisse Group A.G., including chief financial officer, chief risk officer, vice chairman of the board, chair of its risk committee and member of the executive board.
A recipient of both the Carl H. Lindner Award for Outstanding Business Achievement (2000) and the William Howard Taft Medal for Notable Achievement (2016), Thornburgh’s professional success is matched by his dedication to provide meaningful opportunity to future Bearcats. In 2019, Thornburgh and his wife Cornelia made a $9 million gift to UC, part of which focuses on diversity and inclusion through scholarships for Lindner students.
“From his distinguished professional achievements, to his track record of purposeful engagement to his great generosity, Dick is an inspiration and a role model for students and alumni,” said Marianne Lewis, PhD, dean and professor of management at Lindner. “I congratulate Dick on serving as non-executive chairman of S&P Global, and know he’ll continue to make a powerful, positive impact through his work and service.”
