UC’s 1819 Innovation Hub opens doors to Cincinnati State students
Cincinnati Innovation District partners work together to keep classes running
Just as not every job can be done from home, some subjects call for a hands-on approach to learning.
For Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, the impact of a water main break at its Clifton campus in early September was minimized by the prevalence of online learning fueled by efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus. However, some Cincinnati State classes, such as Manufacturing Processes 1, needed an alternative location.

Thanks to the close relationship between Cincinnati State and the University of Cincinnati — bolstered by the March 2020 establishment of the Cincinnati Innovation District — those students have set up shop in the Ground Floor Makerspace at UC’s 1819 Innovation Hub.
"The Cincinnati Innovation District is about speed, adaptability and connectivity — especially for our partners and alliances. " UC Chief Innovation Officer David J. Adams said. "When we learned of the challenges Cincinnati State was facing, we jumped in immediately to help. This is exactly the kind of cooperation Gov. Mike DeWine and JobsOhio envisioned when we formally announced the CID."
Lab classes such as Manufacturing Processes 1 provide Cincinnati State students with the crucial hand-on knowledge and experience they will need in the advanced manufacturing workplace To maintain safe social distancing, the class meets in five separate weekly sections between Tuesday and Friday at the 1819 Innovation Hub.
"Our faculty, staff and students have done an outstanding job this year in not letting the challenges we faced stall students' progress toward completing their education," said Cincinnati State President Dr. Monica Posey. "I appreciate UC's help in making that happen. Not only will our students benefit, but also employers and the region as these students enter the workforce well prepared to contribute to the economic recovery."
