UC online programs ranked among best in nation
U.S. News places UC colleges, programs among best for online education, supporting student success
As a new year and a new term open during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and its emphasis on online options, the University of Cincinnati has earned noteworthy recognition of the online education offerings to be found in a number of colleges and programs.
UC pulls rank among its national peers in the U.S. News and World Report’s 2021 Best Online Programs standings, released Jan. 26. Overall, the rankings are another endorsement of the quality of the online instruction and a testament to the fact that UC faculty have been national leaders in delivering first-class online courses for 20 years now.
Highlighted among the university programs during this pivotal last year was a significant jump by the online master’s business program (non-MBA), offered out of the Carl H. Lindner College of Business. The program now stands at No. 21 in the nation, rising from No. 55 since this time last year. Similarly, UC’s online MBA advanced to No. 51, rising 11 spots in just one year’s time and is now the top online MBA program in Ohio.
Lindner Dean Marianne Lewis stated, “These impressive rankings are thanks to the tremendous efforts of our faculty, staff and students. The jump mirrors the step changes we’ve made over the past year. Growing the breadth and depth of our online program offerings, we continue to elevate the professional development and flexibility valued by our students.”

Among the UC programs placing in the Top 100 nationally in the annual list that U.S. News compiles after evaluating more than 1,600 online bachelor’s and master’s degree programs on factors like student engagement, faculty credentials, and student services and technology:
- No. 11 online master’s in criminal justice (No. 7 best for veterans)
- No. 12 online master’s in computer information technology
- No. 14 online master’s in nursing (No. 5 best for veterans)
- No. 21 online master’s in business (non-MBA)
- No. 46 online master’s in education
- No. 50 online master’s in engineering
- No. 51 online MBA
- No. 75 among the best online bachelor’s
Importantly, UC’s master’s programs in criminal justice and nursing were also ranked among the 2021 Best Online Programs for Veterans. UC's criminal justice program was ranked No. 7 nationally among best online master's in criminal justice programs for veterans, and the nursing program was ranked No. 5 nationally among best online master's in nursing programs for veterans.
Terence Harrison, program manager, Veterans Programs & Services, explained, “To be recognized as an institution that provides the best online programs for veterans in the fields of criminal justice and nursing is no small feat. Because of that, all veterans who attend the University of Cincinnati will know that they will receive a quality education and that their degree from UC will be recognized nationally.”
