NBC Sports: Fans can get sick from stressing out while watching sports
UC's Kate Chard provides tips on how to keep calm when watching your favorite teams
"When you stay at a high stress level, stress can cause us to become sick," says Kate Chard, PhD, a professor at the UC College of Medicine and a stress expert at the UC Health Stress Center. "'I'm gonna have a heart attack with this team.' Well ... there's a reason for that!"
Chard recently spoke with NBC Sports about the stress of being a sports fan, particularly as the NBA and NHL playoffs are set to begin.
She discussed some simple things fans can do to de-stress during a game.
