Knock blood shortages out of the park during the annual Reds Blood Drive at Hoxworth

Baseball season is back, and that means it’s time for Hoxworth Blood Center’s annual Cincinnati Reds blood drive!

Individuals who donate blood at one of Hoxworth’s seven Neighborhood Donor Centers between Friday, June 11 and Friday, June 25 will receive an exclusive Cincinnati Reds baseball t-shirt.

“This year’s Reds blood drive is particularly special to us, as the 2020 baseball season was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Alecia Lipton, spokesperson for Hoxworth Blood Center.  “With vaccinations becoming more widespread and life slowly returning to normal, we’re excited to celebrate our hometown team and save lives in the process.”

Lipton added that the need for blood is expected to grow in the coming weeks, as traumas and emergency surgeries typically skyrocket during the summer months.  Blood banks across the country have already issued pleas for donors, as national supplies of blood dwindled around Memorial Day.

Appointments are encouraged due to the anticipated popularity of this exclusive giveaway.  Masks are no longer required by donors, but are highly encouraged. To schedule a donation, visit www.hoxworth.org or call (513) 451-0910.

Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati was founded in 1938 and serves more than 30 hospitals in 18 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. Annually, Hoxworth collects more than 90,000 units of blood from local donors to help save the lives of patients in area hospitals. Hoxworth Blood Center: Saving Lives Close to Home.
