Students help design custom blood-pressure cuff for Cincinnati Zoo's great apes
WCPO highlighted the work of University of Cincinnati students who designed a 3D-printed adapter for great apes at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden.
Students in UC's College of Engineering and Applied Science and UC's College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning collaborated on the adapter, which helps the zoo monitor the heart health of its great apes.

The zoo needed an adapter for the device to accommodate both the hulking arms of its western lowland silverback gorillas and the lanky arms of its orangutan.
WCPO's story was picked up by Yahoo! News.
Industrial design graduate Jack Buehler said the project was unusual.
“I did not come to UC as a designer thinking that I would work on a project with the zoo,” he told WCPO.
But he and fellow industrial design major Andie Ticknor and mechanical engineer Ben Merk worked together with the zoo to solve the unique problem.
