School spirit on display during UC Family Weekend

UC Family Weekend turned out to be an even bigger hit than expected with an estimated 4,000 participants visiting the university during three days of activities.

Pep rallies, a movie night, the Bearcats football team’s win over Temple University, 54-3, and a host of family-centered activities made for a memorable weekend organized by UC Parent and Family Programs.

“My mom, dad and younger brother were with me at the Friday night game,” says Grace Nobers, a third-year student from Louisville, Kentucky, majoring in early childhood education. “We got the chance to see the Bearcats’ big win. My cousin went to Temple and it was nice to beat his alma mater. It was a great win.”

Her family also stuck around for activities in Schneider Quad Saturday morning. They could opt for a Henna tattoo, enjoy rock paintings, pose for a caricature or check out the student research exhibits from the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

“We painted rocks and we made sand jars,” says Nobers. "We enjoyed a few donuts and got to see other families in the area. It was a beautiful day out and we got to enjoy the sunshine and everything. I liked all the different activities and sections in the quad. There was more stuff to do than in previous years and it was super fun. I think it helped families get together and spend time doing fun easy crafts with one another.”

“It’s been so exciting to see so many university departments and colleges get involved this year to welcome families to campus and give them an exceptional experience that showcases all that UC has to offer,” says Whitney White, director of UC Parent and Family Programs.
