UC Board of Trustees approves Lindner appointments

New endowed professors, a new endowed director and a professorship reappointment

The University of Cincinnati's Carl H. Lindner College of Business is proud to announce several appointments that were approved at the UC Board of Trustees meeting that took place on Oct. 26, 2021.

“At Lindner, endowed professorships, directorships and chairs are vital, fueling the impact of vibrant Lindner thought leaders — such as those just named by the Board of Trustees,” said Lindner Dean Marianne Lewis, PhD. “I’m deeply grateful to our visionary donors for their support, which fosters leading-edge research, inspiring teaching and vital community engagement.”

Kate Harmon, El and Elaine Bougraf Director of Entrepreneurial Practice

Effective Aug. 15, 2021-June 30, 2023

The El and Elaine Bougraf Director of Entrepreneurial Practice was founded in 2012 to support a business-oriented professional charged with enhancing outreach programming and business community engagement on behalf of the Center for Entrepreneurship. El Bourgraf (Bus ’54) revolutionized the EMS industry, becoming chairman of Ferno-Washington Inc. He also served as a trustee of the UC Foundation and was a member of the Keating Society at Lindner.  

Endowed Professor Appointments

Joshua Clarkson, PhD, Arthur Beerman Professorship, Department of Marketing

Effective Oct. 26, 2021-August 2024

In 1973, the Arthur Beerman Professorship was established by the Beerman Foundation in memory of Beerman, the creator of Elder-Beerman, and his inspiring 40-year career in retail and real estate.   

Annette Hoffman, PhD, Schwarm Professorship of Finance and Investments, Department of Finance

Effective Jan. 1, 2022-Aug. 14, 2024

The Schwarm Professorship of Finance and Investments was created in 1990 from a gift by Virgil M. Schwarm, a 1927 graduate of UC’s business program. In 1953, Schwarm founded Schwarm & Company, an investment firm in Hamilton, Ohio, before selling the company to Queen City Securities Corp. in 1987.

Effective Oct. 26, 2021-Aug. 14, 2024

Founded in 2012 by Woodrow Uible, the Kautz-Uible Professorship of Economics supports research and academic work for the Kautz-Uible Economics Institute. Uible has partnered with the Kautz family for over 30 years to advance the work and success of the Economics Department. He also has been an adjunct professor in economics and has volunteered extensively to benefit UC. Uible also served as a trustee of the UC Foundation and a member of Lindner Business Advisory Council.

Endowed Professorship Reappointment

Sidney Barton, PhD, John and Gloria Goering Professor in Family and Private Business, Department of Management

Effective Aug. 15, 2021-Aug. 14, 2022

The John and Gloria Goering Professor in Family and Private Business was founded in 2011 with a gift by John Goering to support research and academic work surrounding family and private business. John was a Lindner gradudate, an accounting professor, a university registrar, an associate vice president of admissions and records, the president of the UC Alumni Association, and the founder of the Goering Center for Family and Private Business. John was also one of the longest-serving trustees in UC Foundation history (1986-2014).
