UC student ready to jump for the ‘Big Apple’

Jump rope athletes will be part of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

UC student Lauren Bradstreet is excited, nervous and ready to perform.

The second-year student in the Lindner College of Business will travel to New York City to perform with 112 jump rope athletes during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The jumpers will represent 25 teams from 21 states across the nation performing in the iconic event.

The group is known by the acronym JUMP, or Jumpers United for Macy’s Parade. Bradstreet spoke with Local 12 News about the upcoming event.

“I am definitely nervous,” Bradstreet told Local 12 reporter Clancy Burke. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t, but I’m excited to represent the entire jump rope community.”

Bradstreet began jumping rope in second grade and continued all throughout high school where she performed in over 50 competitions. The athletes who were selected to jump rope in the parade met in Cleveland over the summer for just one day of training.

“One of my favorite things about jump rope is just the community aspect,” Bradstreet said. “I’ve met people from all over the world. It’s really cool to say I have friends from China, Japan, Bermuda and all of these really cool places and just the jump rope community is definitely my favorite part.”
