UC Clermont to host spring reading series

Acclaimed authors will share their works on campus

UC Clermont will welcome two accomplished authors to the college’s Batavia campus this spring.

Author Bill Abbott will visit the college Feb. 28 for a conversation with the author at 9:05 a.m. in the West Woods Building, Room 163, followed by a reading and book signing at 11:15 a.m. in the UC Clermont Library, located in the Peters-Jones Building.

Abbott is the author of “Let Them Eat MoonPie” (Chatter House Press, 2014), the history of poetry slam in the Southeast, and the poetry collection “(My Life, and Other) Famous Train Wrecks of Ohio.” He has been published in Front Porch Review, Radius, The November 3rd Club, Flypaper Magazine and The Sow’s Ear. Abbott lives in Ohio and teaches creative writing at Central State University. 

On March 30, UC Clermont will welcome author Avery M. Guess for a conversation with the author at 9:05 a.m. in the West Woods Building, Room 163, followed by a reading and book signing at 11:15 a.m. in the UC Clermont Library.

Guess received a 2015 NEA Fellowship for Poetry and grants from the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund and the Kentucky Foundation for Women. She is the grant program manager at the Kentucky Foundation for Women and a doctoral student at the University of South Dakota. Recent publications include poems in diode and Rogue Agent and creative non-fiction in Still, Entropy and The Manifest-Station. Her debut full-length poetry collection, “The Truth Is,” was published in 2019 by Black Lawrence Press.

All reading series events are open to the public. UC Clermont is located at 4200 Clermont College Drive, Batavia, Ohio.

UC Clermont women’s soccer team wins back-to-back national...

The UC Clermont women’s soccer team has claimed the 2024 Small College Division II National Championship for the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. Led by head coach Kemar Jackson and assistant coach Brett Black, the win marks back-to-back titles and the fourth trophy for the program in six years.
