Honorees named for 2022 Cincinnati Business Achievement Awards
Event slated for March 3 at Duke Energy Convention Center
Awardees for the 2022 Cincinnati Business Achievement Awards (CBAAs) have been announced. Presented by the University of Cincinnati Carl H. Lindner College of Business Alumni Council, this year’s event will be held at the Duke Energy Convention Center in downtown Cincinnati on March 3.
In its 37th year, the CBAAs is the region’s longest-standing event that recognizes achievement in business and service to communities, both locally and globally. The event also raises funds for scholarships and financial assistance at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Carl H. Lindner Award for Outstanding Business Achievement
Eric C. Broyles, Blue Ash ’90, Bus ’92
Founder & CEO, Nanocan Therapeutics Corporation
The Lindner Award is the highest honor a Lindner graduate can receive at the CBAAs, with a focus on entrepreneurial spirit, a commitment to business and reaching the highest levels of success within one’s profession. Eric Broyles’ personal and professional accomplishments certainly make him a qualified awardee.
Eric is the founder and CEO of Nanocan Therapeutics Corporation, and the founder and board chairman of ExpertConnect Litigation Support, LLC. Nanocan owns the global and exclusive license to a patented nanotechnology-based drug delivery matrix invented at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a teaching hospital of Harvard University’s medical school and Harvard’s Dana Farber Cancer Institute. ExpertConnect is one of the leading expert witness search and placement firms in the U.S., having more than 160,000 subject matter experts in all industry sectors under contract with the firm.
Eric graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law and the Carl H. Lindner College of Business, where he double majored in marketing and management. In 1992, Eric was recognized as Lindner's Most Outstanding Student after garnering an associate’s degree from UC Blue Ash in 1990.
He began his career as a judicial law clerk on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit for the Honorable Joseph W. Hatchett, chief judge of the circuit. After his clerkship, Eric joined the Washington, D.C. office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, where he practiced corporate law.
Eric left Skadden to become corporate counsel for AOL, Inc. and later AOL Time Warner, Inc. where he served as senior counsel. Post AOL, he began his career in business by helping to launch and build Gerson Lehrman Group, the largest expert network firm in the world.
Away from work, Eric is the first vice president of the University of Virginia School of Law Alumni Council and a board trustee and chair of the development committee for the University of Cincinnati Foundation. Eric also serves on the board of trustees of his local church, Hill City Church DC.
Distinguished Service Award
Arnold C. Hanish, Bus ’70
Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer (retired), Eli Lilly & Company
Arnold C. Hanish has been ranked one of the most influential people in finance by both Business Finance and Treasury & Risk, and his efforts within the accounting and financial reporting community have shaped broader policy issues affecting the pharmaceutical, biotech and other industries. In November 2016, Arnold was inducted into the Financial Executives International Hall of Fame.
Arnold retired in December 2012 from Eli Lilly and Company, where he was vice president and chief accounting officer. Hanish began his career at Lilly as manager of domestic tax operations in 1984. In 1987, he moved into a financial reporting role and was appointed chief accounting officer in 1994. Hanish began his career at Arthur Young & Company (currently Ernst & Young) in Cincinnati upon his 1970 graduation from UC’s College of Business with a degree in accounting.
Arnold was appointed to the board of directors of Omeros Corporation in September 2012 and chairs their audit committee. In July 2019, he was named to the board of directors of Salarius Pharmaceutical. He chairs their audit committee and serves on the compensation committee. In May 2013, Arnold was appointed to the Deloitte Audit Quality Advisory Council. He is a past chairperson of the Financial Executives International (FEI) Committee on Corporate Reporting (2007 to 2010). He also served on the FEI-SEC and FEI-Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) subcommittees. From 1999 to 2001, Arnold served on an AICPA Task Force that resulted in the publication of a white paper, “Accounting for In-process Research and Development Expenses.”
Included in Treasury & Risk’s 2009 and 2008 “100 Most Influential People in Finance,” Arnold has been recognized by Business Finance in their articles “Influencers 2007: Transparency Changes Everything,” “2006’s Influencers: 60 Authoritative Voices,” and “2005’s 50 Worth Watching Influencers.”
Additionally, Arnold serves on UC’s Business Advisory Council and the UC Accounting Department Advisory Council, and was recognized as a distinguished alumnus in 2011.

AMEND Consulting
AMEND is an independently owned, Cincinnati-based management consulting firm that focuses on strengthening the people, processes, and systems behind organizations in order to generate a holistic transformation. AMEND strives to deliver results as the leading catalyst for business growth and performance excellence in the Midwest.
Since its establishment in 2005, AMEND has developed a robust, 16-week analyst development program for co-op students to gain practical experience in the field of management consulting. Primarily targeted toward UC co-op students, AMEND employs approximately 20 analysts every semester, allowing students to gain hands-on experience consulting on topics such as operations management, sports analytics, systems assessments, cost accounting and predictive data analytics.
AMEND believes people join the team for a reason, a season or a lifetime. They strive to invest in every person on the team so they can become the best version of themselves, including their analysts. All analysts participate in the individual development program, where they explore ways to leverage AMEND to double down on their talents and explore new business ventures. Amend also strives to help springboard talent into the next chapter of their career, whether that is pursuing higher education, pivoting into a new career, or anything in between.
AMEND has continuously served as a key partner for Lindner, helping students to start their careers, transform businesses and change lives.
PACEsetter Awards
Annette Echikunwoke, A&S ’18, Bus ’19
Paid Search Specialist, Empower
Annette Echikunwoke’s story is one of grit, determination, and resilience. The child of Nigerian-born parents, who grew up in Columbus, Ohio, Annette has continuously pushed the limits in both her professional and athletic careers.
At UC, Annette became the school’s first NCAA champion in track and field when she won the 2017 NCAA Indoor Championship in the weight throw. However, her accomplishments at UC were not limited to her athletic pursuits. Annette received both a Bachelor of Science degree in actuarial science from the College of Arts and Sciences in 2018 and an Master of Science degree in marketing from the Carl H. Lindner College of Business in 2019.
Upon graduation, Annette began her career as a paid search specialist with Empower, a national advertising agency based in Cincinnati. Outside of her full-time role, Annette has continued to pursue her athletic dreams and in 2021 set four successive Nigerian and African records in hammer throw, ranking seventh in the world in this event. Annette qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics and continues to train in the sport.
When she isn’t working or pursuing her athletic dreams, Annette serves as a volunteer coach for the UC track and field team. Annette also volunteers her time in the Greater Cincinnati community, working with Girls on the Run of Greater Cincinnati and the Freestore Foodbank.
Brandon D. Trame, Bus ’15
Manager of Analytics & Optimization, 2060 Digital
Brandon Trame is an excellent example of what a student can accomplish when they fully embrace all UC has to offer in the classroom, on campus and in the workplace.
A 2015 graduate from the Marvin P. Kolodzik Business Scholars Program, Brandon completed five unique co-ops/internships with influential organizations including Great American Insurance, Google and Clark Shaefer Hackett. On campus, Brandon was also involved in several organizations centered around engaging students with athletics and alumni, including the Student Alumni Council, RallyCats, Undergraduate Student Government, Forever Bearcats and Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.
Following graduation, Brandon joined 2060 Digital, a full-service digital marketing agency that helps their clients succeed with the Google advertising ecosystem, utilizing Google Analytics and custom campaigns in Google Ads. Since joining the firm in 2015, Brandon has held numerous roles and currently serves as a manager of analytics and optimization. Outside of work, Brandon remains involved in the UC community, serving as an alumni adviser to the collegiate members of Sigma Phi Epsilon, promoting young alumni involvement in the athletics tailgating group The Den, and connecting to other passionate Bearcats through UC Young Professionals.
Brandon met his wife, Kelly, while building a homecoming float for RallyCats during their sophomore year. They live in Cincinnati and are expecting their first child this May.
Carl H. Lindner Outstanding Junior Scholarship
As one of the oldest scholarships at UC that bears the Lindner name, the Carl H. Lindner Outstanding Junior Scholarship recognizes an undergraduate student who best exemplifies the energy, commitment and creativity of Carl H. Lindner — shown through their work in the classroom, and their commitment and contribution to UC. Stay tuned for the reveal of this scholarship winner.
The Heart of William J. Keating Leadership Award
This award and scholarship bears the name of prominent Cincinnati lawyer William (Bill) Keating, Jr., and honors his longtime service as president of the Lindner Business Advisory Council. When Keating passed away in 2017, Dave Szymanski, former dean of the Lindner College of Business, established the Heart of William J. Keating, Jr. Leadership Award to recognize a junior business student for their outstanding service to the university and community. Stay tuned for the reveal of this scholarship winner.
