Lindner launches two new online master’s programs
Business analytics and information systems join Lindner’s online graduate offerings
The University of Cincinnati Carl H. Lindner College of Business has launched online master’s programs in business analytics (MS-BANA) and information systems (MS-IS).
MS-BANA and MS-IS are the latest additions to Lindner’s collection of online master’s offerings, which includes finance, marketing, taxation and business administration (MBA).
“Now more than ever, organizations rely on their technology infrastructure to leverage data and analytical tools,” said UC Online Vice Provost and Dean Jason Lemon, PhD. “The University of Cincinnati is excited to introduce two fully online degree programs designed to prepare graduates for success and career growth in some of the most important and leading-edge areas of business intelligence and analytics.”
Lindner’s MS-BANA program recently was ranked as the No. 1 MS Data Science School for the third consecutive year — and the fourth time in five years — by Predictive Analytics Today, signifying the program’s strength as well as the appetite for careers in business analytics.
MS-BANA students work on real-world projects and gain the necessary skills to succeed in data visualization, statistical modeling, data mining, optimization and simulation to analyze datasets and generate actionable insights. Graduates from the program — which is STEM-designated — have found positions at many local and national companies such as Amazon, Capital One, Fifth Third Bank, P&G and Tesla.

Dungang Liu, PhD, associate professor of business analytics, interim assistant department head, department of operations, business analytics and information systems, said there is a “huge untouched market for the business analytics program,” and the department believes that “most business professionals could benefit from learning or updating their analytics skills.” He also noted that the MS-BANA program is accessible to those who have full-time work and family commitments.
The increasing need for workers who can understand, interpret, develop and use data analytics ensures the MS-BANA program’s relevance to the broader business landscape.
“This demand is seen in almost all economic sectors and industries. In particular, data analytics has been playing a vital role in revolutionizing the way traditional businesses are conducted,” Liu said. “Without analytics approaches, we would not have seen many exciting developments in financial technology, precision marketing, personalized medicine and health care solutions, and sports performance management. The momentum of using analytics to create and propel new business models and strategies will certainly not cease in the foreseeable future.”
Among MS-BANA program prerequisites are an undergraduate bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution; three semesters (or four quarters) of college-level calculus through multivariate calculus; and fundamental knowledge of computing with the ability or willingness to learn procedural programming languages like R, Python, SAS or Matlab.
Necessary application materials include submission of a resume and transcripts, a completed application and goal statement essay, and GMAT or GRE scores, though a waiver can be sought for the latter. An International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score is needed for international applicants.

The MS-IS program, ranked in the top 15 in North America by Eduniversal Group, is ideally suited for consultants; IT, data, software and business intelligence analysts; SAP consultants; and data scientists. Most years, 100% of MS-IS students are employed upon graduation, working at many of the companies listed above, plus Accenture, General Electric, Google, Microsoft and more well-known businesses.
“The number of open jobs far surpasses the number of IS professionals available to fill them,” said Jaime Windeler, PhD, assistant department head and associate professor, department of operations, business analytics, and information systems. “This creates a high-choice job market for people with an MS in information systems and very competitive salaries.”

Windeler said the STEM-designated MS-IS program was created for professionals who either want to accelerate their present career in information systems and technologies or chart a fresh career path.
“Our 100% online, asynchronous program is designed to be maximally flexible,” Windeler said. “At the same time, our new program provides more options for our current students whose educational plans were changed or disrupted by COVID.”
MS-IS prerequisites and application materials include a completed application, transcripts, a KIRA interview, and GRE or GMAT scores (a waiver can be sought). For international applicants, an IELTS or TOEFL score is required.
Lemon noted that the launch of the MS-BANA and MS-IS programs add to an “already robust mix of online graduate business degrees” available from Lindner.
