UC Day of Giving proves it’s a remarkable time to be a Bearcat
24-hour challenge raises more than $2.5 million for UC scholarships, programs and more
The 2022 edition of the University of Cincinnati’s Day of Giving was a remarkable success this year, raising more than $2.5 million from over 3,000 gifts. Gift totals from the campaign, which ran April 7-8 from noon to noon, are the highest in the event’s five-year history at UC, with alumni, donors, students, faculty and staff uniting to support the university and its programs.
“The success of this year’s UC Day of Giving illustrates that our UC family pushes the limits of what’s possible,” said Peter Landgren, UC Foundation president. “I’m grateful for the collective impact generated by our 121 ambassadors and all Bearcats who supported what’s next across our university community.”

The campaign yielded a variety of success stories, including:
- Matching gifts totaling $198,700, creating a greater impact on scholarships, research, and immediate resources for colleges.
- More than 1,170 donors gave over $608,570 to support student scholarships, which play a critical role in ensuring UC students stay enrolled and graduate on time.
- UC student organizations received more than 421 gifts. For example, Bearcat Bands raised $12,415 to help alleviate the financial burden of purchasing and maintaining new instruments
- The UC Bearcats Pantry, UC Clermont Food Pantry, and UC Blue Ash Bearcat Student Food Pantry raised more than $16,398 to provide critical resources such as food, hygiene items, cleaning supplies, and professional clothing for vulnerable students.
- The 127 dedicated individuals who served as UC Day of Giving ambassadors directly influenced 464 gifts totaling $27,014. Details about challenge winners and ambassador awards can be found at dayofgiving.uc.edu.
And thanks to the generous spirit of numerous UC alumni and donors, there were significant investments to the university that allowed UC Day of Giving to impact students and programs like never before, including:
- A transformational gift to the Institute of Law and Psychiatry from the Weaver Foundation.
- A generous gift to the Maraschin Scholarship Fund. This scholarship will support a medical student who has an interest in pursuing a career in primary care medicine.
- Additionally, significant support from Joan Wieging, Althea Aquino, Jerry and Connie Fritz, Victor Schwartz and the Sloan Family.
These gifts are creating lasting change that will affect today’s Bearcats and generations to come.
“Thanks go to everyone who made UC Day of Giving 2022 a success,” Landgren said, “proving once again it’s a remarkable time to be a Bearcat!”
Mark your calendar for UC’s next community driven giving day, #GivingTuesday, which will be held on Nov. 29, 2022.
