Some UC IT services will be down Dec. 16-17

Many cloud-based services will remain available

Select IT services and systems at the University of Cincinnati will be unavailable from 10:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 16, to 11 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 17, during a planned power outage in the university’s primary data center. Many commonly used cloud-hosted services will remain available.

What's happening

​​​​​​​Contractors will replace an uninterruptable power supply in the university’s primary data center on Saturday, Dec. 17.

The maintenance requires a planned power outage in the Data Center that will affect access to some IT services and online systems from 10:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 16, to 11 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 17. 

Many commonly used cloud-hosted services will not be affected by the planned data center power outage and will be available throughout the planned maintenance window.

Affected systems:

IT systems hosted in the data center will not be available.

  • Adobe Experience Manager Author (AEM, the “uc.edu” web content management system)
  • AiM-Asset Works
  • Animal Operations Research Administration Portal (AOPS)
  • Animal Protocol Research Administration Portal (IACUC)
  • Annual Performance Review System
  • Bearcat Card transactions (Note: Bearcat Cardholders will be unable to purchase goods and services or deposit funds to their Bearcat Card account during the data center outage period. Your Bearcat Card will continue to work for door access/residence hall access.)
  • Catalyst (Student information system)
  • Cohesity Enterprise Backup Environment (Backup/restore function unavailable)
  • College of Medicine Effort Reporting
  • DTS Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM/SCCM)

UC network upgrade planned in May

UC’s network connection to OARnet, the university’s internet service provider, will undergo overnight maintenance twice in May — 2 a.m., Wednesday, May 4, and 2 a.m., Sunday, May 8. No interruptions to network service are planned or expected as part of these necessary equipment upgrades.

Expect changes to WebEx access

March 30, 2022

Zoom replaced WebEx as the university’s official web conferencing tool for teaching and learning. Access to WebEx licenses will be limited to areas with specific business needs when the final stage of the WebEx-to-Zoom transition ends.
