Patient's Proactive Health Approach Helped Her Battle Pancreatic Cancer

Sophia Swann, 71, of Springboro, Ohio, considers herself very lucky. In 2011, she thought she had been given a death sentence when she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The disease affects about 44,000 people annually, but is the fourth-leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States. Most patients are diagnosed in late stages, when the cancer is inoperable and therefore incurable.
