UC to host event exploring evolving artificial intelligence

A conference and workshop to analyze the practical and ethical impact of artificial intelligence (A.I.) will be hosted this month by UC’s department of philosophy, the Institute for Research and Sensing (IRiS), with support from the Taft Research Center. “Machine Learning, Abstract Thought, and the Expanding Reach of AI: Ethical and Conceptual Frontiers” will be held April 7 -8 from 1 .m. to 6 p.m. in Probasco Auditorium, 2839 Clifton Ave., with a welcome address by UC Provost Valerio Ferme at 1 p.m. on Thursday. The conference portion of the event is free and open to the public.

What is Digital Media Collaborative?

The media world is an ever-changing landscape, with new technologies and innovations popping up each year. Between direction, screenwriting, animation and game design, opportunities are vast. The Digital Media Collaborative (DMC) program at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Arts and Sciences hopes to prepare students for the industry and these focus areas by working with advanced media tools to tell stories.

 UC alum creates platform to encourage young women in STEM

Madelyn Leembruggen has long excelled in STEM-related subjects, with the study coming naturally to her. The alumna of UC’s College of Arts and Sciences graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a 4.0 in 2018, with degrees in Physics, Astrophysics and Mathematics. Leembruggen has long been aware of the lack of representation of women role models for young girls interested in pursuing their STEM passions. Now a PhD candidate in theoretical physics at Harvard, Leembruggen set out to help inspire the next generation of women in STEM.

UC launches graduate-level sustainability internships

April 12, 2022

The UC Center for Public Engagement with Science (PEWS) has announced three new sustainability interns.  As part of UC’s Research 2030 initiative, the internships were created to coincide with university-wide sustainability initiatives, according to Angela Potochnik, director of PEWS and professor of philosophy in the College of Arts and Sciences.
