CSO and CCM announce 2020-22 class of Diversity Fellows

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) have selected five outstanding musicians for their next class of CSO/CCM Diversity Fellows. Born out of a mutual desire to help American orchestras be more inclusive and to better represent the communities they serve, the performance fellowship program was launched in 2015 with a generous grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

CCM and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) have selected five outstanding musicians for the next class of CSO/CCM Diversity Fellows. Born out of a mutual desire to make American orchestras more inclusive, this prestigious performance fellowship program was launched in 2015 with a generous grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The Foundation approved a renewal grant of $850,000 in 2017, providing funding for the innovative program through June 2021.

Ariel Quartet featured on 'Today Show'

The Today Show featured four familiar faces in an April 27 segment. The members of the Ariel Quartet, CCM’s string quartet-in-residence, performed music and spoke during an NBC news segment highlighting Violins of Hope, an organization dedicated to restoring violins that belonged to Holocaust victims and survivors. CCM faculty members Alexandra Kazovsky and Gershon Gerchikov, who serve as the Ariel Quartet's two violinists, performed on restored instruments during the segment.

CCM hosts guest lecture on June Carter's impact on country music

Each semester, CCM's Thinking About Music Series welcomes distinguished experts for musical discussions and lectures that are open to the general public and free to attend. The series continues at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 5 with a presentation by Stephanie Vander Wel, Associate Professor in the Department of Music and Global Gender and Sexuality Studies at the University at Buffalo. The title of Vander Wel's talk is "Gendered Acts in Comedy: June Carter’s Vocal and Kinetic Performance in Country Music." The lecture will be presented in the CCM Baur Room.
