Hear Cincinnati Opera's world premiere of 'Fellow Travelers' on WGUC this weekend

This Sunday, July 18, 2020, the radio station will broadcast the world premiere of "Fellow Travelers," featuring faculty and alumni from UC's College-Conservatory of Music.

BBC News spotlights CCM professor’s family life during coronavirus lockdown

CCM faculty member Ric Hordinski recently found himself in the international spotlight after one of his daughters was asked to chronicle her life amidst the COVID-19 pandemic for BBC News. A photojournalism major at Ohio University, Madeleine Hordinski was one of three young Americans asked to keep video diaries chronicling her experiences during the coronavirus lockdown.

Aya Yoshida receives CCM's prestigious Zemlinsky Prize for composers

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) is proud to announce that Aya Yoshida has been awarded first prize in CCM’s Alexander Zemlinsky Prize for Composition. The Zemlinsky Prize, instituted in 1990 and awarded every six or seven years, promotes the music of young composers from around the world, while honoring Alexander Zemlinsky (1871-1942), a composer who is becoming increasingly recognized as among the 20th century's significant musical voices. Previous winners include Ulrich Kreppein, Nerong Prangcharoen and Moritz Eggert.

Women who lead: CCM alumna wins La Maestra conducting competition

Out of over 200 applicants, 12 conductors made it to La Maestra competition, including three CCM alumni: Tong, Maria Fuller (MM Orchestral Conducting, ’19; AD Opera Coaching, ’17; MM Piano Performance, ‘15) and Jiajing Lai (MM Orchestral Conducting, ‘15). Lai also advanced to the semi-final round.

Local music spotlight: On a Limb releases new album

October 21, 2020

UC College-Conservatory of Music alumni pianist Andrew Haug (BM Jazz Studies, ‘18), bassist Noah Simionides (BM Jazz Studies, ‘17) and drummer Charlie Schefft (BM Music Education, ‘19) teamed up four years ago to create On a Limb, a jazz-influenced instrumental trio. The ensemble has experienced significant successes, including tour dates around the United States and now the release of its second album, Replaying the Tapes.

Ian Axness named Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre and Resident Music Director at CCM

UC College-Conservatory of Music Interim Dean Jonathan Kregor has announced the addition of Ian Axness to the college’s roster of distinguished performing and media arts faculty members. A versatile conductor, collaborative pianist and teaching artist, Axness first joined CCM’s faculty as an adjunct and guest resident music director in 2022. His new appointment as Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre and Resident Music Director will begin on Aug. 15, 2023.
