In coordination with the national First-Generation College Celebration Day on Nov. 8, UC has set aside this week to celebrate the achievements of its own first-gen students who are lifting not only themselves but generations to come by pursuing their college degree.

First-year student Grayson Mentzel just moved onto campus, but six months ago, it was the University of Cincinnati that showed up at her door. Grayson was one of the lucky area high school students to be part of UC’s first-ever Decision Day surprise, when a shuttle with UC VIPs and members of the media surprised newly accepted Bearcats at their school or home.

The University of Cincinnati marks its seventh year of record enrollment, exceeding projections made late this summer. UC’s official total enrollment for the 2019-20 school year comes to a new all-time record of 46,388.

UC welcomes its largest summer class in university history by nearly 500 students. Preliminary summer 2021 enrollment is at 20,618 students, up 2.4% from 2020, when UC previously surpassed the university’s summer enrollment record. The upward trajectory represents a longtime trend in summer enrollment.

When a parent has a substance abuse disorder, many children lose their way. UC students Angela and Marcus Elliott found education as their passion, with Angela acting as a mentor to her younger brother. Both received scholarships and now pursue higher education through scholarships. .

The college ranking and review service Niche released its 2023 college rankings and gave UC the top spot in the ‘Best college locations in Ohio’ category.

A total of 10 students in Cincinnati Public Schools have been named Marian Spencer Scholars for the Fall 2023. Four learned of their award on Decision Day, January 23, while six others received the surprise announcement during the following week. UC officials visited eight Cincinnati schools to congratulate these high-achieving students.
