The University of Cincinnati’s Creative Writing Program is continuing its Visiting Writers Series this week, which brings students together with several distinguished authors and poets.

The creative writing program at the University of Cincinnati, offered through the College of Arts and Sciences, hosts its Visiting Writers Series each semester to welcome distinguished authors to campus to read their work. Program coordinators are excited to announce that this year, the series will be held in-person, after two years of a virtual format. The event is free and open to the public. It will take place on Sept. 14 at 5:30 p.m. in the Elliston Poetry Room, located in Langsam Library, 2911 Woodside Drive. There will also be a live virtual option offered, via registration.

The annual Hike + Write series, a collaboration between the University of Cincinnati College of Arts and Sciences and Cincy Parks, gives participants the chance to write while exploring the outdoors.

The College of Arts and Sciences announced Ryan J. White and Rina Williams as the newest divisional deans of Natural Sciences and Social Sciences. White and Kennedy’s inclusion will bring new focuses and structure around student success and the college of Arts and Sciences’ advancement. Both will officially begin their new terms on Jan. 1, 2024.

University of Cincinnati students can now enroll to earn a Bachelor’s degree in two new humanities programs: Social Justice, and Latin American, Caribbean and Latinx Studies, offered through UC’s College of Arts and Sciences.

Students at the University of Cincinnati will be able to enroll to earn a certificate in disability studies in fall semester, 2022. Offered through the College of Arts and Sciences, the certificate will explore the experiences of disabled people, and the role of the disability community and the community at large in addressing equity, access and justice. The creation of the certificate program was inspired in part by the experiences of students, says Cheli Reutter, associate professor of American and African-American literature, who helped develop the program.

Toward that end, University of Cincinnati students, working through the Bearcat Promise Career Studio, serve as Peer Career Coaches, mentoring students with advice for building resumés and cover letters, interviewing, navigating career platforms such as LinkedIn and Handshake, and upcoming virtual career fairs. The Bearcat Promise Career Studio, opened in 2019 in UC’s Tangeman University Center, offers full-service job search coaching to students seeking their next step out of college.
