Strings Magazine shone the spotlight on UC College-Conservatory of Music alumna Anita Graef (MM Cello Performance, ‘19), featuring the rising star in a digital performance of Sibelius’ Theme and Variations for Solo Cello and Gliere’s 8 Pieces for Violin and Cello. The surge in COVID-19 cases this winter has many Tri-State colleges rethinking return plans as some push back classes or go remote. The University of Cincinnati announced that classes would begin as planned on January 10 but that instruction would be remotely along with many other university operations until January 24.

Local audiences can attend the Cincinnati premiere of a new film to watch the work of UC College-Conservatory of Music Acting alum Jack Steiner (BFA '20) and Professor Robert Pavlovich. "They/Them/Us," a film based in Columbus, premieres on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022, at the Esquire Theatre in Cincinnati. Audiences can catch showings at noon and at 2 p.m.

Students from the Media Production Division at UC's College-Conservatory of Music won five College Student Production Awards from the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. CCM Media Production won more awards than any other program, college or university that competed in the Ohio Valley four-state region.

CCM Musical Theatre has a tradition of welcoming their first-year students with a showcase. However, for the class of 2024, the pandemic had other plans. Determined to make this performance happen, faculty and students adapted to create a virtual performance entitled, “Wake Up,” in which newcomers were featured monologues and performances shot in various locations across Cincinnati.

Ohio Department of Higher Education is operating the Second Chance Grant Pilot Program encourage residents who haven't completed their bachelor's degrees to return to the classroom to bolster their credentials. It will provide up to $3 million in financial assistance in the form of $2,000 grants to eligible students re-enrolling at the University of Cincinnati and other qualifying institutions to obtain a bachelor's degree.

Uc College-Conservatory of Music Professor of Piano and Artist-in-Residence Awadagin Pratt spoke to the Cincinnati Business Courier about his aspirations to diversify the arts industry by encouraging the next generation Black American pianists. Pratt was one of three recipients of the 2021 Sphinx Venture Fund, generating an award of $100,000 to kick-start the biannual Nina Simone Piano Competition beginning summer 2023.
