The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) have selected five outstanding musicians for their next class of CSO/CCM Diversity Fellows. Born out of a mutual desire to help American orchestras become more inclusive and better represent the communities they serve, the performance fellowship program was launched in 2015 and continues with a generous grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

The second episode of CCMONSTAGE Online is now available for on demand viewing. Originally broadcast on Friday, Feb. 12, this 30-minute-long virtual concert features CCM string quartet-in-residence the Ariel Quartet collaborating with master’s degree students Cristian Diaz and Denielle Wilson, who are also both second-year participants in CCM’s innovative Diversity Fellowship initiative with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra's Fanfare Project launched in May 2020 to commission and premiere new solo works in response to the coronavirus pandemic. It's shared new music from more than 12 composers so far, including a recently premiered Viola Fanfare by Grammy-winner and MacArthur "Genius Grant" recipient Rhiannon Giddens. UC College-Conservatory of Music AD flute student Chaz Salazar is the 2020 Orchestral Futurist Fellow at the National Orchestral Institute + Festival (NOI+F). Offered by the NOI+F in partnership with the Sphinx Organization, the Fellowship aims to further advance the power of diversity in the arts.

The Freshman Musical Theatre class at UC’s College-Conservatory of Music marked the conclusion of their first year in the BFA program with a virtual showcase titled “Wake Up.” The performance features a variety of student-curated monologues and performances that were shot on location at Cincinnati theatres, parks and museums.

CCM’s Music Theory and Musicology Society hosts its ninth biennial student conference designed to engage both UC students and students from other institutions in the broad field of music scholarship. The hybrid-format conference features keynote speakers Julianne Grasso (University of Texas at Austin) and Imani Mosley (University of Florida) and student paper presentations. This year’s conference also includes two workshops led by CCM ethnomusicologists Stefan Fiol and Scott Linford.
