Local 12: Behind the scenes of the St. Vincent de Paul RetroFittings fashion show

One man's trash being another man's treasure is an age old adage that today is often called upcycling. It's also the theme of the "RetroFittings" fashion show, which charges UC design majors to repurpose thrifted items from the Society of St. Vincent de Paul charity stores into fashion statements. The annual show took place Oct. 19, 2023 at Cincinnati's Music Hall.

UC student and twin brother model for Gucci – again!

UC engineering student Jake Bartel has his sights set on earning a computer science degree and becoming a fashion model, along with his twin brother Nate. In 2022, the twins were first selected to walk the runway in the Gucci fashion show in Milan, Italy and then asked back to model for the fashion house's 2023 advertising campaign. The brothers were discovered by talent scouts at the annual Twins reunion in Twinsburg, Ohio, which is also their hometown.

National media highlight newest US World Heritage site

For nearly two decades, professor emeritus John Hancock helped lead a team of archaeologists, historians and Native American scholars, including staff at the National Park Service and Ohio History Connection, to have the Hopewell earthworks recognized on par with other World Heritage sites such as the Great Wall of China and Stonehenge.

Cincinnati ranks No. 1 in the nation for street art

Cincinnati boasts a plethora of street art, including murals, which led to its designation by USA Today as the No. 1 city with the best street art for 2024. UC's College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning has been instrumental in designing, implementing and placing public art projects throughout the city.
